| Kingfishers Make It 4 In a Row with 4-1 Triumph Over Denki | The first-place Yokohama Kingfishers picked up another win.
The Yokohama Kingfishers rode a solid performance from 30-year-old starting pitcher Shigeyasu Hirayama to a win, beating the Denki Dynamics, 4-1, at Kanagawa Stadium. Hirayama, now 6-8, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Toshinori Osada got the save, his 17th in 29 chances.
Yonekichi Okazaki, who finished 2nd in the EL in batting average with .321 in 1961, contributed to the Yokohama win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the left fielder had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Makes our job easier," said Okazaki, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
Yokohama leads the Eastern League by 9½ games.
