| Kingfishers Lose Contest, 3-2 | A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Hosho Reliables and Yokohama Kingfishers.
The Hosho Reliables rode a solid performance from 38-year-old starting pitcher Eichiro Ueno to a win, beating the Yokohama Kingfishers, 3-2, at Kanagawa Stadium. The winning pitcher was Ueno, now 10-7. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4.
The Kingfishers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Reliables going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old catcher Yorihiko Kawata came to the plate. Kawata hit a solo home run on a 1-1 curveball from Yokohama hurler Kinzo Yoshimura. It was Kawata's 1st home run of the year.
"Good win for us," said Kawata. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
The loss makes Yokohama 52-53.
