| Kingfishers Beat Visiting Bears, 5-3 | Sapporo got a terrific game from shortstop Michihiko Ishikawa. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Yokohama, 5-3. Ishikawa went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Minao Akagi got the save, his 2nd in 3 chances. At 58-40, the Kingfishers have a slim two-game lead in the Eastern League.
The Kingfishers got a big at-bat from third baseman Naota Kodama. For the game, Kodama was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Yokohama a 4-3 lead.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Kodama.
