Sapporo got a valiant performance from pitcher Chiko Abe, but it wasn't enough to beat the Yokohama Kingfishers. Yokohama won the game, 1-0. Abe threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Yokohama pitcher NorogumiOda Tominaga got the win, upping his record to 4-6. Chiko Abe got the loss. Taishi Yoshimura earned the save, his 1st, for the Kingfishers.

Had Ikuto Shinseki not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Shinseki hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Kingfishers.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Shinseki said after the game.

The Kingfishers saw their record improve to 44-61.
