Owls Get Past Sapporo for 6-5 Win
The Kyoto Owls did just enough to sneak past the Sapporo Bears, 6-5, at Sapporo Stadium. Kyoto right fielder Kimiyasu Aoki, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Morihiro Matsumura in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Katsumi Sato took the loss. The Owls, at 39-37, lead by one game in their division.

Noriyuki Okamoto was vital part of the Kyoto win. He went 1 for 5. In the top of the ninth with two out, Okamoto hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 6-5, in favor of the Owls.

"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Okamoto. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
