| Reliables Sneak Past Kingfishers, 2-1 | In a low-scoring game between the Hosho Reliables and the Yokohama Kingfishers, pitcher Shihei Saito was masterful on the mound. The Hosho right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Matashichi Matsunaga picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Munenao Shintani suffered the loss. Hosho, at 66-37, is 10 games up in the Eastern League.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Kingfishers allowed the Reliables to score the winning run.
"The other side played a good game," said Yokohama manager Johnny Ruby. "You tip your cap to them."
