| Owls Sneak By Rams, 5-4 | The Kyoto Owls dealt the Rakisuta Rams a 5-4 loss at Rakisuta Stadium. Shun Smith, who finished 4th in the EL in hits with 147 in 1973, was the star on offense. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Picking up the save was Kenshin Kon. He's now 22 for 29 in save chances. The victory gives the Owls a record of 54-46.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Bungo Arai was at the plate when Kyoto scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Owls to go in front, 5-3.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Arai told reporters after the game.
