| Yokohama Beats Kyoto, 4-1 | Kakuro Watanabe, who is tied for 2nd in the EL in innings pitched with 155.0, imposed his will on the Owls from the get-go. Relying mainly on his knuckle curve, the right-hander spearheaded the 4-1 Yokohama triumph. The winning pitcher was Watanabe, now 9-3. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 8. Meguru Kanda got the save, his 1st in 2 chances.
With two out in the bottom of the fifth, Bibb Martin put Yokohama in front, 3-1, with a 2-run single. The Kingfishers went on to win the ballgame.
"For the most part, I didn't think they knew what was coming," said Watanabe.
The Kingfishers raised their record to 38-58.
