Kyoto 1-0 Losers to Bears | The Sapporo Bears did just enough to sneak past the Kyoto Owls, 1-0, at Sapporo Stadium. Sapporo pitcher Seikichi Nagamatsu, in particular, had a standout performance. Nagamatsu picked up the win for Sapporo, going 5.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 7-3. The Bears have a one-game lead in the Eastern League.
Torai Yamamoto, who is tied for 9th in the EL in stolen bases with 6, had a timely hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two out and a runner on 2nd, the Sapporo second baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Bears in front, 1-0.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Sapporo manager Earl Higgins. | |
