| Kato, Owls Beat Reliables, 5-3 | The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Kyoto fans at Owls Park.
In the 5-3 Kyoto win over Hosho, the impact of Tensui Kato was substantial. Kato, who is tied for 8th in the EL in hits with 88, went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Michinaga Sekiguchi got the win, improving to 5-8. He held the Reliables to 3 runs on 2 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2.
Tamotsu Endo, who finished 5th in the EL in triples with 5 in 1972, helped out the Kyoto cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the second baseman was 1-2 with 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Endo told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
Kyoto raised its record to 49-41 with the win. | |
