| Owls Knock Off Bears, 5-0 | Kyoto and Sapporo took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Kyoto Owls went home winners at Owls Park, thanks in large part to starter Seishiro Kikuchi. Kikuchi stifled the Sapporo Bears, enabling Kyoto to grab the 5-0 win. Kikuchi yielded no runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 1. His record improves to 7-6.
Takiji Hayashi, who finished 4th in the EL in wins above replacement with 5.5 in 1958, contributed to the Kyoto win with a 2-run single in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.
"Just glad I could help us get a win," said Hayashi.
At 36-37, the Owls find themselves in 5th place in the Eastern League.
