| Bears Come Up Short at Yokohama, 5-4 | The Yokohama Kingfishers picked up a win at Kanagawa Stadium, taking down the Sapporo Bears, 5-4. Starting pitcher Shigeyasu Hirayama was a big reason why. Hirotsugu Sasaki, credited with the win in relief, is now 6-5. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. The Bears, now 27-41, have lost 4 straight.
Had Souhei Tamura not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Tamura hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Kingfishers.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Tamura said.
