| Kingfishers Go Down to Defeat, 8-4 | Sapporo center fielder Hidetsugu Yoshida helped his team beat the Yokohama Kingfishers, 8-4. Yoshida, who finished 5th in the EL in wins above replacement with 4.6 in 1951, went 2 for 2 for the Bears. The save went to Senichi Soga, his 12th this season. With the win, Sapporo upped its record to 41-29.
Torai Yamamoto, who is tied for 4th in the EL in triples with 4, contributed to the Sapporo win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Yoshida. "And not try to do too much."
