Reliables Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
The Hosho Reliables earned a close win over the Sapporo Bears, thanks in part to Kinichi Ota. The Hosho right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the EL in wins with 6, played a key role in the 1-0 victory. Hod Taylor Jr. closed it out for Hosho, earning his 9th save. The win gives Hosho a season record of 36-24.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Reliables had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fifth, when catcher Jokichi Kono hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Sumiteru Yoshida and made the score 1-0, Reliables. Kono was 1 for 4.

"Some games build character," said Hosho manager Shun Kawamura. "Like this one."
