| Reliables Down Bears, 7-5 | The rain came, as predicted, but the Hosho Reliables and Sapporo Bears were able to complete their ballgame.
The Hosho Reliables besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Sapporo first baseman Sam Carpenter by beating the Bears, 7-5, at Nagoya Minami Stadium. Carpenter was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Kiyoharu Kawamoto, who is tied for 9th in the EL with a 3.64 ERA, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. The save went to Motomu Taira, his 7th this season.
Billy McCullough cracked a home run off Tatsuki Nakagawa in the bottom of the first. His 2-run blast put the Reliables on top, 2-0. In all, McCullough had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," McCullough said after the game.
The Reliables improved their record to 39-16 with the win over Sapporo.
