| Bears Win, 5-3, Versus Hosho | The Hosho Reliables could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Fumimaro Yamauchi into a win. Instead, the Sapporo Bears prevailed, 5-3. Yamauchi threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Sapporo is now 23-31, while Hosho is 35-17.
Yoshinari Akamine came through with a big-time hit for Sapporo. The first baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Akamine told the Sapporo Citizen.
