Conditions were not ideal but Yokohama and Kyoto were able to put their game in the books.

A 3-RBI performance from Katsuaki Ishikawa, who led the EL in triples with 7 last year, helped the Yokohama Kingfishers beat the Kyoto Owls, 9-4. Munenao Shintani, the winner, is now 4-5. He struck out 5 and walked 4 over 7.2 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 10 hits.

Thoki Kaneshige, who led the EL in doubles with 30 in 1964, helped out the Yokohama cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the first baseman was 1-4 with a walk.

Yokohama manager Johnny Ruby commended his team for "putting the pedal to the metal."

Yokohama is 20-32 and Kyoto, with the loss, 28-24.
