| Sato Excels, But Rams Win | Despite a great performance by Yokohama shortstop Daijiro Sato, the Rakisuta Rams defeated the Kingfishers by the score of 8-7 at Kanagawa Stadium. Sato went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Masakado Matsuda, who finished 3rd in the EL in wins with 14 in 1961, was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, with 7 walks and 1 strikeout. The Rams, at 17-21, sit in 5th place in the Eastern League.
Rakisuta used the timely hitting of Tsuguhiro Hashiguchi to capture the win. The pinch hitter socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rams ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
"It feels good to get this one," Hashiguchi told the Rakisuta News.
