The Sapporo Bears topped the Denki Dynamics, 4-1, in Eastern League action at Sapporo Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Sapporo pitcher Naruki Shimada. The winner was Shimada. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Tekkan Mihara. Eisaku Yamaoka picked up the save for Sapporo, his 4th of the year.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bears sent 22-year-old pinch hitter Kuzuya Sato to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a run-scoring single, to put Sapporo on top, 3-1.

"Winning is the only objective," said Sato after the game.

Sapporo goes to 18-31, Denki to 26-21.
