| Kingfishers Lose By a Run at Hosho | Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Hosho Reliables take on the Yokohama Kingfishers.
Shihei Saito, who is tied for 8th in the EL in quality starts with 9, never let the Kingfishers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his sinker, to pitch the Reliables to a win, 2-1. Saito got the win, improving to 9-5. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Motomu Taira collected his 22nd save.
Hosho shortstop Daijiro Nakamura helped the Reliables go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Nakamura hit a run-scoring single off Yokohama pitcher Meguru Kanda.
"Tough loss," said Yokohama manager Johnny Ruby. "The kind that burns a little inside."
The first-place Reliables have won 4 in a row. | |
