| Bears Win, 4-2, at Kyoto | The Sapporo Bears picked up a win at Owls Park, defeating the Kyoto Owls, 4-2. Starting pitcher Arata Komatsu was an essential part of his team's success. Komatsu, who finished 3rd in the EL in wins with 16 in 1959, went the distance for Sapporo. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. The win lifted the Sapporo record to 15-14.
Kohsuke Takayama, who is tied for 7th in the EL in stolen bases with 2, had a direct impact on the outcome. Takayama contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Sapporo up, 1-0.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Komatsu.
