| Owls Roll Over Reliables, 9-3 | The Kyoto Owls beat the Hosho Reliables, 9-3, at Owls Park. Kyoto shortstop Bungo Arai had an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Isoroku Furuta, the winner, improved to 3-1. He held the Reliables to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 4. Hosho falls to 10-6.
Yutaka Yoshida had a big 3-run home run for the Owls in the bottom of the third inning. With Kyoto trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Eichiro Ueno, who finished 3rd in the EL in ERA with 3.04 in 1961, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Owls on top, 3-2.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Yoshida.
