Jim Place, who is tied for 6th in the FA in complete games with 3, was locked in. The left-hander led the Los Angeles Suns to a 3-1 win against the Atlanta Copperheads at Wilshire Park. Ron Clark earned the save for Los Angeles, his 16th. The Suns improved their record to 65-53 by beating Atlanta.

Los Angeles took a 3-1 lead on George Whaley's 2nd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Whaley hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Atlanta pitcher Jack Kotarski visibly frustrated.

"Tough loss," said Atlanta manager Don Fox. "But we'll learn from it."
