Fading Gothams Lose 8th Straight
In a low-scoring affair between the Houston Comets and the New York Gothams, pitcher Johnny Blackburn was the difference between victory and defeat. The Houston right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Comets win. The losses continue to mount for New York, which has now dropped 8 in a row.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Hank Andrew came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Bunny Mullins, he hit a 1-1 screwball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Houston on top, 2-1.

"Johnny gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Houston skipper Glenn Carney.
