San Francisco got a strong outing from Maurice Russell as the Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Knights, 4-1, at Knights Stadium. Hugh Schneider was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 19 save opportunities. San Francisco, now 47-48, holds down third place in the Great Western League.

In the top of the second, with the bases loaded, Russell came to the plate. He hit a sacrifice fly off Steve Noel to put the Hawks in the lead, 1-0.

"I liked his command," said San Francisco manager Billy Rose. "Maurice was throwing strikes."
