| Clippers Edge Minutemen, 1-0 | In a low-scoring tilt between the Baltimore Clippers and the Boston Minutemen, 31-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Martinez was the difference-maker. The Baltimore right-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win. Martinez, now 8-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 5, and allowing no runs. Stan Boone earned the save, his 1st in 1 tries.
Harry Simmons, who finished 5th in the FA in home runs with 28 in 1973, had a direct impact on the outcome. Simmons contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Baltimore up, 1-0.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Simmons. "You've got to get results."
The Clippers, at 41-40, sit in second place in the Federal Association East. | |
