Miners Beat Eagles, 8-6, at Fitzpatrick Park
The Pittsburgh Miners powered past the Washington Eagles, 8-6, at Fitzpatrick Park. Mike Whisman provided some of the pop. He went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Joe McDowell got the win, improving to 13-5. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. George Kollock closed it out for Pittsburgh, earning his 17th save.

The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Whisman hit a 3-run home run. It thrust the Miners into the lead, 7-4.

"Nice win for us," said Whisman. "Now we'll go after the next one."

The 7th-place Miners improved to 52-71.
