Minneapolis Drops Another One, 12-5 | The Washington Eagles defeated the Minneapolis Millers, 12-5, in Federal Association action at Columbia Stadium. Washington pitcher Walter Paxson had a standout performance. The Millers, at 17-73, have lost 8 straight games.
Myles Barber had a big bases-clearing triple for the Eagles in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Washington leading 6-5 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Frank Nichols, who finished 5th in the FA in saves with 10 in 1956, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 9-5.
"We need to focus on the fundamentals," said Minneapolis manager Frank Vance. | |
