| Cannons Lose By a Run at New York | The New York Imperials overcame a good performance by Cincinnati catcher Tom Evans to knock off Cincinnati, 7-6, at Dyckman Stadium. Evans went 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was New York reliever Hank White, now 1-0. The loser was John Walker. With the win, New York has a record of 36-35. Cincinnati falls to 31-43.
Had Owen Drake not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Drake hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Imperials.
New York manager Jim Abernathy was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys went out there and put good wood on the ball," he said. | |
