Though he had a great game, Jack Abasi could not single-handedly produce a win for Atlanta. New York won the game, 7-2. Abasi went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Joe Jones, the 1971 Kellogg Award winner . Jones contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put New York up, 4-0.
