Chiefs Topple Pioneers with Late Rally
Chicago right fielder Freddie Mitchel made his presence felt in the 8-7 Chiefs triumph over the St. Louis Pioneers. Mitchel went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Norm Sutherland came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 3-2. The Chiefs improved to 35-39.

The decisive blow was delivered by Andy Ellefsen in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 3-run home run off 25-year old left-handed pitcher Tony Smith to win the game for Chicago. The home crowd went nuts.

"This place was rockin'," Mitchel said.
