| Pioneers Zap Chiefs, 9-4 | The St. Louis Pioneers and Chicago Chiefs completed their game despite the rain.
The St. Louis Pioneers cut down the Chicago Chiefs by the score of 9-4, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman John Richards. Richards went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Pioneers. Harry Anderson got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2.
Richards had a key at-bat for St. Louis in the bottom of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and gave St. Louis an early 4-1 lead.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Richards told the St. Louis Times.
The third-place Pioneers go to 35-33. | |
