| Ashley Razor-Sharp, Shuts Out New York | The New York Stars were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Cincinnati Monarchs and hurler Clar Ashley. Ashley kept the Stars confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Ashley," New York manager Myles O'Shea said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 23-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and no strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Ashley said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season, Ashley has worked 119.2 innings with 36 strikeouts en route to a 6-8 record and a 3.08 ERA. | |
