Philadelphia wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Don McKeown, falling to the Washington Eagles, 2-1. McKeown threw 8.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Foster Sherman notched his 7th save in 19 chances. With the win, Washington upped its record to 86-65.

The Eagles got a big at-bat from first baseman George Whaley. For the game, Whaley went 1-2 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave Washington a 2-0 lead.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Whaley said.
