| Sparks Shackles Detroit | Before the game, Ed Sparks said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Hennepin County Grounds, the Lumberjacks pitcher blanked the Detroit Lancers, 3-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Sparks said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my sinker even when I was behind in the count."
The Minneapolis starter held Detroit scoreless, giving up 2 hits while registering 2 strikeouts and issuing 3 walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Lancers manager Otis Collier said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
This year, Sparks has made 26 starts, thrown 217 innings, fanned 58 batters and walked 74. His won-lost record is 11-12 with a 4.23 ERA. | |
