| Suns Upend Gothams, 3-1 | The Los Angeles Suns converted a terrific effort from starter Dixie Gaines into a win over the New York Gothams at Gotham Stadium. The Suns won the game by a final score of 3-1. The winning pitcher was Gaines, now 10-13. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Frank Carey, who is tied for 7th in the FA in saves with 12, nailed down the save.
With Los Angeles trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Gaines hit a 2-run single off New York hurler Chet Stansbury. It was the 13th hit of the season for Gaines and put his team ahead, 2-1.
"Dixie gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Los Angeles skipper Bill Morrill.
The win makes Los Angeles 60-83.
