| 5 Straight Wins for Chiefs | The Minneapolis Millers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Don Hillshire into a win. Instead, the Chicago Chiefs prevailed, 6-4. Hillshire threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Dode Hogan got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings. Minneapolis has now lost 5 straight.
Had Irv Clifford not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Clifford hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Chiefs.
"The team always comes first," Clifford told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
