Downbound Comets Lose 8th Straight
The Atlanta Copperheads picked up a win at Peachtree Stadium, dropping the Houston Comets, 2-1. Howie Burt, who won the Kellogg Award in 1973, was the difference-maker. Ike Abraham picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Spencer Reese suffered the loss. The losses continue to add up for Houston, having now dropped 8 straight.

Howard Smith was the walk-off hero for Atlanta. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Copperheads catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"From the last whatever, five, six, seven games, there's really only one way to go and that's up," said losing manager Glenn Carney.
