| Bulls Sweep Reliables | The Kobe Bulls earned their 11th BAN Championship Series title and now have all winter to spend basking in the glory, while the beaten Hosho Reliables will have plenty of time to wonder what went wrong.
Kobe became the Baseball Association of Nippon champion for 1974 with a 9-5 triumph to capture the series 4-0.
"Both clubs are talented. We just made fewer mistakes than they did," winning manager Shojiro Tasaka said to the press corps at the postgame press conference. "We made the crucial plays and got the timely hits."
Hosho skipper Shun Kawamura agreed with that assessment, saying his club turned out to be "a little weak on fundamentals" at crucial times.
"I have a sneaking suspicion we will be working on fundamentals a lot next spring," he said.
On the way to the BAN Championship Series championship, the Bulls ended up in first place in the Western League and compiled a 97-43 record during the regular season. | |
