Starting pitcher Joe Downing took care of business, helping the Philadelphia Keystones stifle the Houston Comets, 2-0. Downing picked up the win for Philadelphia, going 7 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 4-5.
Andy Parker drove in one run for Philadelphia. The five-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jay Hunt. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"Runs were at a premium," said Philadelphia manager Charlie Leist.
With the win, Philadelphia has a record of 19-25. Houston falls to 26-24.
