Washington left fielder Joe Cantrell was sensational. He was 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Louis beat the Eagles, 11-7. Tige Bowe picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-4. He struck out 6 in 8 innings. St. Louis is now 19-25. Washington is 16-25.

Sam Peterson, who finished 4th in the FA in hits with 177 in 1968, helped out the St. Louis cause in the top of the first inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the second baseman went 1-3 with a walk.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Peterson told the St. Louis Gazette. "It's as simple as that."
