Fred Pavich of the Albany Legislators was on top of his game.

The 35-year-old tantalized the Newark Foundrymen with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.

"He had the changeup working," Newark manager Kenny Griffin said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Albany hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Pavich told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

To date this season, Pavich has a record of 13 wins and 10 losses and a 3.80 ERA. He has appeared in 34 games and struck out 62 in 206 innings.
