| Legislators Chill Kuchenbecker Hot Streak Thursday, August 2nd , 1917 It was the best of both worlds for the Albany Legislators at Capitol Park Grounds, as they defeated the Jersey City Sparrows, 6-5, and also snapped Dick Kuchenbecker's 20-game hitting streak. The 20-year-old Jersey City third baseman failed to get a hit in 1 at-bat.
"Nothing personal against Kuchenbecker, we just wanted to win the game," said Legislators skipper Lew Bryant. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Kuchenbecker frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."
This year, Kuchenbecker is batting .366 with 2 home runs and 33 RBIs. In 71 games he has scored 39 times. | | |
