| Polcyn Fashions Shutout Against Jersey City Tuesday, August 29th , 1916 Elton Polcyn shut out the Jersey City Sparrows, 2-0, on a 7-hit masterpiece for the Rochester Millers at Hudson Park.
"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Rochester skipper Pat Hopkins said afterward.
Polcyn registered 6 strikeouts and issued no walks in pitching a gem.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Jersey City manager Napoleon Walker after the defeat.
To date Polcyn is 14-15 in 32 starts with a 3.11 ERA and has 126 strikeouts in 266 innings. | | |
