 | Great Day for Fontenot -- 5 Hits Saturday, July 15th , 1916 Fans at Harbor View Grounds got to see not only a home-team victory, but also one of the most impressive feats of hitting of the season. The Buffalo Lake Captains outplayed the Newark Foundrymen en route to a 6-5 win, but the standout was right fielder Lawrence Fontenot. Fontenot netted 5 hits in 5 at-bats and finished with a dynamite game line. "Hey, we tried everything we could think of to get him out," Foundrymen manager Kenny Griffin said in postgame comments. "We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the sink, too." Lawrence Fontenot singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. This season, Fontenot is batting .323 with 105 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 39 times and has 46 runs batted in. |   |
