 | 5-for-5 Game for Schmer Tuesday, April 17th , 1917 There aren't many who could be pro ballplayers and there are even fewer who could put up 5 hits in a day. William Schmer is one of those rare few, as he went 5-for-5 against the Colorado Springs Pioneers at Fort Wayne Grounds. The monster effort from the 32-year-old center fielder helped the Fort Wayne Warriors get the win, 6-0. "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it," said Pioneers manager Jack McSorley. "That's the game, though. Don't make mistakes and you'll win ballgames. Make mistakes and, well, you saw what happened today." William Schmer doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and singled in the 7th. In his season totals Schmer has 3 home runs and a .306 batting average. |   |
