Roger Alford of the Chicago Cougars was on cloud nine during the 1974 season, mystifying most of the hitters he faced, then capping it off with the Continental Association Allen Award.

Alford was spectacular in 35 starting assignments with 17 wins and 9 losses, 276 innings, 139 strikeouts and a fine 2.35 ERA.

He received 17 first place votes out of a possible 24. Herm Quinn of the Cincinnati Cannons finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Jim White of the New York Imperials finished third with 2 first place votes.
