Powell Hit String Snapped at 23

Bill Powell came rolling into today's game against the New York Gothams with a 23-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Gotham Stadium.

The 26-year-old Minneapolis Millers center fielder went 0-for-4 against the Gothams as the Millers fell, 4-1.

"I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all."

Powell is batting .292 this season in 132 games with 12 home runs, 67 RBIs and 82 runs scored. He has 150 hits in 513 at-bats.
