| Bob Bell Captures FA Whitney Award Wednesday, November 1st , 1961 Bob Bell took Federally Aligned Baseball Leagues by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 23.
For his spectacular campaign, the St. Louis Pioneers star has been named the 1961 Federal Association Whitney Award recipient.
"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the second baseman.
On the season he compiled a .345 batting average to go with a .435 on-base percentage. The native of Sedalia, Missouri also added 19 doubles, 10 triples, 39 home runs, 128 RBIs and 117 runs scored.
He received 16 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Buddy Miller of the Philadelphia Keystones finished second in voting, while Ed Bloom of the Chicago Chiefs finished third.
