| Kennedy Humbles Toronto, 1-0 Wednesday, September 5th , 1917 The Toronto Beavers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Blues. The Beavers were overpowered by Chicago starter Al Kennedy, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Máximo Rios said.
Over 9 innings, Kennedy blanked Toronto on 3 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Kennedy said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Currently Kennedy has a 14-14 won-lost record in 34 starts with a 2.36 ERA. He also has 125 strikeouts in 255.2 innings.
